SCORER Antoine Semenyo admits Andoni Iraola was not too impressed with Cherries’ first-half performance at Burnley, adding: “He let us know!”

Despite leading at the break at Turf Moor through Justin Kluivert’s well-taken finish, Cherries struggled to deal with relegation-threatened Burnley at times.

The hosts regularly played out from the back and created an overload down the flanks, ending the half having had 75 per cent possession and 13 shots to Cherries’ five.

Cherries improved in the second half, Semenyo sealing a 2-0 win with a deflected strike late on.

Discussing the intended tactics and how it panned out at Turf Moor, Semenyo told BBC Radio Solent: “We planned to go man for man.

“Their movement was catching us off guard in the first half, so we said in the second half, let the keeper have the ball for a little bit then as he gets closer, out of the box, go and press.”

Asked if Iraola had a few words to say to the squad about his disappointment at the performance in the first 45 minutes, Semenyo added: “He let us know! We changed our approach in the second half.

“I feel like in the second half we knew we had to up our press a little bit and work as a team. Hold and press together.

“It was a tough game, up and down, they had chances, we had chances, but happy we get the job done.”

Semenyo took his goal tally for the season to five with his late strike, having also netted against the Clarets earlier in the season.

Discussing his finish at Turf Moor, cutting in from the right flank and firing in via defender Charlie Taylor’s back, the 24-year-old said: “I had two chances before and put them just by the post twice.

“I knew I had them going inside. I made sure when I got it again, I just cut inside and shot, got lucky with a deflection and it went in.”
