BURNLEY boss Vincent Kompany called on more consistency from the officials after his side saw a goal ruled out against Cherries.

With the Clarets trailing 1-0 to an early Justin Kluivert strike, Josh Cullen looked to have equalised in the second half.

However, the goal was ruled out by referee David Coote with Jacob Bruun Larsen judged to have fouled Adam Smith as he nodded the ball across goal to Cullen.

Antoine Semenyo went on to seal a 2-0 win for Cherries late on, leaving Burnley 11 points from safety.

Kompany was asked about the decision to disallow Cullen’s goal, the Belgian citing a late equaliser from Luton Town’s Carlton Morris as another similar situation which went against Burnley this season.

“You’re starting me off on something there,” said the former Manchester City defender.

“I want you to note how calm and rational I am about this.

“In the context of this game, you can allow or disallow this goal and have a 50:50 divide on people who say in England ‘you’ve got to jump and he jumped earlier than his full-back’.

“And you’ve got another part who will say ‘but he didn’t make contact with the ball’, so 50:50 and you follow the on-field decision.

“But then if you zoom out a little bit and you put this goal against the goal we concede against Luton, because we’re talking about impeding a player whilst not making contact with the ball.

“It’s exactly what happened in the Luton game, but in reverse.

“In that moment you don’t give a foul and in this moment you do give a foul. They are key, deciding factors. That side of it is difficult to handle this season.”

He continued: “Simple things as well when you talk about consistency. The first yellow card of Dara O’Shea, I don’t actually have an issue with it, because it’s very clear in the rules that this is a yellow card.

“But then when it happens five minutes later, right in front of the dugout and nothing is done about it, do I add this to the pile of so many decisions that we struggle to understand?

“It keeps going on.

“In the bigger context it is difficult to accept. But in reality, as soon as this press conference is finished, I will not moan about this for one second and focus on what I can do with my players. We’re the ones who missed the chances, except that (Cullen) one.

“I’m not here to make rules. But those who make the rules and enforce the rules have to make sure the consistency is there.”

Reflecting on his team’s performance against Cherries, Kompany said: “I think we put in the energy that we needed to put into this game.

“We created more shots and chances than in any of the games we have played in the Premier League so far this season.

“Even after conceding such an unfortunate goal, we carried on.

“It was (avoidable). I don’t think there’s two ways about it.

“But it is the type of league that will punish you on those type of moments.

“It can be the reason why you concede or it can be the reason why you don’t score.

“That’s just part of operating at this level.”
