CHERRIES women have snapped up Kelci Bowers on loan from Portsmouth for the rest of the season.

Steve Cuss’s side are pushing hard to clinch promotion out of Division One South West in the National League.

They currently sit second in the table, nine points behind leaders Exeter City, with three games in hand.

Defender Bowers joined Pompey at the start of this season, after leaving Louisiana State University.

The 20-year-old, a former England youth international, featured for Southampton and Chelsea, before her move into senior football.

Discussing the arrival of Bowers, boss Cuss told Cherries’ website: “She’s someone that can help us and will bring a lot of strength to the side.”

Bowers has made five appearances for Portsmouth this season, who sit top of the Southern Premier Division, a level above Cherries.

“I’m really excited to get going,” she said.

“The girls seem great, there are really good facilities and Steve seems a great manager.

“They have got a great ambition here and good goals to achieve.

“I want to help achieve that and be a part of that to take into next season.”

Cherries will look to close the gap on Exeter with victory away at Moneyfields tomorrow (7.45pm).
