ILLIA Zabarnyi’s hopes of playing at this summer’s Euros remained alive in dramatic fashion as two late goals were enough for Ukraine to overcome Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-1 in their league B play-off semi-final.
Cherries defender Zabarnyi played the full 90 minutes in Zenica as Mykola Matvienko’s second-half own goal had looked set to have decided things.
However, two goals in the final five minutes of regulation time from Roman Yaremchuk and Artem Dovbyk turned the game on its head.
Ukraine will now face Iceland in the play-off final for a spot in group E at this summer’s tournament, set to be staged in Germany.
Iceland defeated Israel 4-1, coming from a goal behind to win away from home.
Although given home advantage, the game will likely be staged in Poland due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The game was Zabarnyi’s 33rd for his country, having previously represented Ukraine as they reached the quarter finals of the previous Euros.
Zabarnyi played every minute of all five games as Ukraine reached the final eight, where they were defeated by hosts England 4-0 at Wembley.
This season Zabarnyi has been ever-present for Cherries in the Premier League, starting and playing the entirety of all 28 league fixtures.
