CHERRIES’ top-half hopes took a dent as they lost for the first time in six games in late fashion at Luton Town.

Marcus Tavernier’s 52nd minute strike was cancelled out by Jordan Clark and Carlton Morris, the latter snatching a winner in the final minute to hand Luton all three points at Kenilworth road.

Whilst there is no stat more important the final 2-1 scoreline, we have dug a little deeper to unearth some interesting facts and figures.

133 – The amount of days since Marcus Tavernier’s last Premier League goal. ‘Tavs’ grabbed a brace over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane at the end of November, his only goals of the league campaign until his 52nd minute strike at Luton. Last term he managed five goals, as well as providing four assists.

0 – Neither side mustered a shot on target in the first period, whilst Marcus Tavernier’s goal was Bournemouth’s first – and only – accurate effort of the game.

1 – Jordan Clark’s equaliser was his first Premier League goal. The 30-year-old has now scored in the top five tiers of English football.

0.34 – Cherries recorded an expected goals (xG) of 0.34, their lowest in the Premier League this term. It is the fifth time in the league this season they have managed just one shot on target (Arsenal (h), Manchester City (a), Liverpool (h), Nottingham Forest (h)).

16 – AFC Bournemouth fired 16 fewer attempts on target than in their 4-3 win over Luton Town, the biggest difference in shot attempts against teams they have played twice this term (24 v eight).

Eight attempted shots was their joint third-lowest tally, their lowest just five in the 6-1 tonking away at Manchester City.

4 – Luton’s victory now means both teams have won this fixture in each tier of the Football League.

12 – The win was Luton’s first in 12 fixtures, also ending a five game unbeaten streak for Cherries.

1 – Victory for Luton marks the first time Bournemouth have lost to a newly promoted side since returning to the Premier League.

Last term they beat fellow newbies Nottingham Forest and Fulham once apiece before sharing draws in the return fixtures, whilst this season they had won four of their five meetings against Sheffield United, Luton, and Burnley.

22 – It was a busy afternoon for Ryan Christie, who was involved in 22 duels.

The Scot won 12 out of 19 ground duels, and unsurprisingly lost all three of his aerial challenges for the ball. Christie also completed the most dribbles, with five successful runs from six attempts.
