MARCUS Tavernier stated he will have to “wait and see” to find out the severity of his hamstring injury.
Shortly after scoring the opening goal in Cherries’ eventual 2-1 defeat to Luton Town at the weekend, Tavernier pulled up clutching his leg.
Subsequently it was revealed that Tavernier had suffered another hamstring injury, his third since joining Cherries from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022.
AFC Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola told the Daily Echo after the game that he feared the 25-year-old could be out for the rest of the season, stating that it was a "difficult" injury.
Speaking after the game, Tavernier told BBC Radio Solent: “We’re going to have to wait and see. Going to have to have a scan, and see what are the results.
“It’s in the hamstring. We won’t know (exactly) until the scan – the scan knows more than me!”
Discussing the game as a whole, Tavernier added: “Everyone in there’s disappointed. We came here off the back of a great run and we wanted to continue it.
“We knew it was going to be a tough test. We were in their situation, you know how much you have to fight for every single ball.
“I feel like we started off doing that, we were competing well. Things changed in the second half, especially after we scored.
“We started not to do those things again, and when their crowd got behind them, it really changed the game around. It made it very difficult for us.
“I feel like first half we should have been more clinical, and tested the keeper more. We knew that coming into the second half we needed to do that, I thought we did that a little bit more but not enough.
“There were chances on the counter attack, we knew it was going to be that type of game, there’s going to be a fire and we lost that part of that in the second half.”
Tavernier’s goal represented his first since the end of November, when he scored a brace away at Sheffield United.
He continued: “It’s tough sometimes when you don’t score or assist as an attacking player, it’s one of your jobs.
“If the team’s playing well, and we’re getting the results, you know that you’re applying yourself in the right areas, you can be happy with that.
“I was just delighted to get back on the scoresheet.”
