BASHLEY boss Steve Riley admits his side lacked the "cutting edge" they needed to bag three points at Clevedon Town on Saturday.
The New Foresters were held to a 0-0 draw in their opening BGB Southern Premier League match of the season. Riley's men laid siege to the Bristol team's goal but an incredible performance from Clevedon keeper Danny Greaves gave Bashley a frustrating afternoon.
The visitors thought their luck had changed on 65 minutes, when Josh Brigham was sent off for a second bookable offence.
But the Seasiders battled hard and kept Bashley at bay to ensure a share of the spoils. A disappointed Riley said: "We had lots of chances but couldn't finish - we simply couldn't get the ball in the back of the net.
"The lads dominated and for the last 20 minutes, when they were down to 10 men, it was just one-way traffic.
"But I have to give them a bit of credit because they were digging in really hard and trying to make it difficult.
"They had nine men behind the ball and whenever the ball bounced in the box, it just bounced to them.
"We piled on lots of pressure - unfortunately, we just didn't have that cutting edge and bit of luck in and around their box."
With a one-man advantage in the closing stages, Riley fancied his side's chances of taking all three points.
But he admits he would have taken a draw going into the contest and was content with Bash's start to the new campaign.
Riley added: "I'm disappointed that we didn't get the three points but the performance was encouraging and I'm happy with our start to the season.
"We stood there and had a bit of a chat after the game and we were all disappointed because we think we should have won.
"It was just the final thing of getting the ball in the net and I'm sure that will come if we keep creating chances like that.
"Overall we were good enough to get three points but we'll play teams, where we don't play very well and get a point.
"We said we'd take a draw before the game but on reflection, we'd admit we should have had the win."
Next up for Bash is a clash with Mangotsfield United at Bashley Road tomorrow night.
