JUSTIN Kluivert says “it means a lot” to beat his famous dad Patrick’s Premier League goal tally.
Justin netted his seventh top-flight goal of the season during Sunday’s 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion, the third home game in succession in which he has found the net.
Netherlands and Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert had one season in England, with Newcastle United in 2004-05, under Sir Bobby Robson and Graeme Souness.
The striker bagged six goals in his 25 Premier League appearances during that campaign as the Magpies finished 14th.
His son has now eclipsed that tally, having established himself in Cherries’ starting XI following his summer arrival from Roma.
“It means a lot,” Justin Kluivert told afcbTV, when asked about beating his dad’s tally.
“I spoke a lot also with my girlfriend about how (Sunday) is a big day for the club and also for me, because I can beat my dad! Also the club history.
“So I am super happy we have achieved both.”
He added: “It was a very complete performance. We worked hard, we know how good Brighton are and I am so proud of the team.
“We have some injuries, but you see it doesn’t matter. We know what we want, the players that come on can have a great impact and that’s what a team is. I think we are that.
“The plan the coach has with us is so clear, it doesn’t matter who plays there, we know what we expect from each other. We showed that.”

Kluivert’s goal also helped Cherries reach 48 points, their highest ever tally in a Premier League season, with three games still to go.
The 24-year-old said: “Now with the points that we have achieved, who knows where we can end up this season?
“We are very motivated. There are three finals left and we will give our all.
“We know we have some tough games, but it is nice.
“These are the games you want to play as a football player.
“I can’t wait for these great games that are coming.”
Cherries visit league leaders Arsenal on Saturday (12.30pm), before hosting Brentford and then ending the season away at Chelsea.
