PIRATES star Davey Watt believes he's back in top racing groove again after expressing relief that his wife Fiona had safely given birth to their second child.

Poole Castle Cover's heat leader admitted he'd been on tenterhooks before the arrival of their son Harley Jae in the town's hospital seven days ago.

So much so he hadn't been able to fully concentrate on his racing for the Dorset club or his Swedish and Polish teams.

But Watt - whose wife delivered more than a week later than expected - is back to his brilliant best on the track following the birth of a baby brother for the couple's daughter Madison.

He bagged nine paid 10 in Pirates' 50-31 home romp over Belle Vue on Wednesday and has been quick to tell the club's fans of his relief and happiness.

Watt, who lines up for Poole against his former club Eastbourne at Arlington in the Elite League tonight (7.30pm), said: "It was hard for me to be away from home.

"I think I was just panicking about the whole thing.

"My wife and child, I wanted to make sure they were okay.

"It was difficult for me to go away racing and then turn the key off and not know what would happen."

Watt added: "It was tough doing meetings, thinking about racing when I was thinking about them. Now Harley has arrived and they are both safe and healthy at home, I can get back to my racing and focus on my job safe in that knowledge."

Table-topping Poole face three tough league meetings inside five days, with Peterborough and Swindon due at Wimborne Road on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.

Watt said: "They're all going to be tough. Eastbourne had a wake up call when Ipswich won there last weekend. They got beaten at home and will want to put that right.

"Peterborough at home, that's going to be a tough one because they've just strengthened up with Ryan Sullivan, Karol Zabik and Lukas Dryml.

"They've come into their team and I'm sure they're going to be looking to climb up the table.

"Swindon have a great team and they're always tough at Poole. It's a good rivalry between the two clubs.

"They're all tough but with our team we're capable of winning all three."

Watt, who missed Pirates' 48-41 triumph at Arlington in May because he was on Grand Prix qualifying duty, added: "I'm looking forward to riding at Eastbourne again because it's always a great track.

"Our fans always follow us to Sussex and it'll be good to see them all there.

"I think we're capable of beating them. We're capable of beating anyone, but it'll be tough."

Bjarne Pedersen has confirmed he will line up for Poole after missing the Elite League Riders' Championship through injury following a crash in Sweden on Tuesday.

Lewis Bridger rides for Eagles after midweek talks with Eastbourne owner Martin Hagon, who had dropped the youngster following their 49-41 home setback against Ipswich.
