BOSS Andoni Iraola says he was left “happy” with his side’s performance, despite defeat on the final day of the season at Chelsea, insisting: “We cannot ask much more of the players.”
Cherries were beaten 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, strikes from Moises Caicedo and Raheem Sterling setting the Blues on their way, before a Benoit Badiashile own goal gave Iraola's men hope.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser, coming close through both Dango Ouattara and Dominic Solanke late on, but Chelsea saw out the win.
Reflecting on the defeat, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “I finish happy with the performance, obviously not with the result, because at the end we lost the game and lose one position.
“But I think we cannot ask much more of the players.
“Especially in the second half we pushed them a lot.
“I think we finished the game stronger than them.
“But probably we miss some clinicality in the opposition box.
“We had, especially the last chance, the triple chance that we don’t score, which I think would be a very good reward for the team.
“But I cannot ask much more of the players, attitude wise I would say.”
Cherries end the season in 12th place, with 48 points.
