DAVEY Watt believes there is no chance table-topping Pirates will fall foul of over-confidence as they step up their title bid at home to Swindon tonight (7.30pm).

The third-placed Robins badly need a win to boost their chances of piping Lakeside and Ipswich for second spot and a home draw in the play-offs.

Poole Castle Cover have beaten the Wiltshire side three times at home already this season - 53-39 in the league, 53-40 in the cup and 54-39 in the Craven Shield.

But Watt is taking nothing for granted, despite the Dorset outfit going into the clash on the back of a club record run of 12 successive top-flight league wins in a row.

The Australian, whose side overtook the previous best of 11 victories in 1994 when they crushed Peterborough 54-36 at home on Monday, said: "Neil Middleditch does a great job keeping our feet firmly on the ground.

"We all know he was a great rider in his day and that he knows what he's talking about to us.

"He makes sure we don't get above our station or lose our motivation, which is important.

"As team manager, Neil knows what to say before a meeting to gee us up and what to say to riders before, during and after races."

Pirates will all-but book a one off home semi-final play-off spot if they win tonight as they chase their first championship success since 2004.

Watt, who believes his individual sponsorship from Argon Welding and JT Commercials has helped him immensely this year, added: "I think we have everyone looking at us and waiting for us to make a mistake.

"We've proven ourselves for a while now and people are just waiting for us to slip up.

"I'm sure Swindon of all clubs, what with them being our local rivals, would love to take three points for an away win.

"I think they need the points. They probably need them more than we do, but we want them as well.

"We all know every race is tough and every meeting is tough, whatever the opposition.

"So we just need to keep winning races and not worry about who is a good team and which riders are on form.

"We're confident in our racing, but there are lots of good teams out there.

"We just need to carry on proving ourselves in every race over the course of 15 in each meeting.

"If we do that, we hope to be in with a major shout in the play-offs."

Middleditch is unavailable for duty tonight, so Pirates owner Matt Ford steps into the team manager role.

Pirates: 1 Chris Holder, 2 Magnus Zetterstrom, 3 Bjarne Pedersen, 4 Adam Skornicki, 5 Davey Watt, 6 Freddie Eriksson, 7 Daniel Davidsson.

Swindon: (probable) 1 Leigh Adams 2 James Wright, 3 Mads Korneliussen, 4 Travis McGowan, 5 Troy Batchelor, 6 Manuel Hauzinger or Richard Sweetman, 7 Jurica Pavlic.

Fixtures, tonight, Elite League: Belle Vue v Wolves.
