BASTIAN Borke suffered a bruised lung, but avoided any broken bones from his horror crash at Poole Pirates last night.

In heat eight of the contest, the Berwick Bandits reserve clipped the back wheel of Poole’s Tobias Thomsen, which sent him crashing into the fence on the back straight, before flying into the air alongside his bike and landing heavily on the track.

Borke required medical attention for around half an hour, before an ambulance arrived to transfer him to Poole Hospital.

The young Dane had been impressive prior to the fall, scoring 6+1, with Poole going on to win the meeting 52-38.

The 21-year-old has since posted updates via his official Instagram page and also spoken to the Bandits website, confirming details of his injuries.

He said: “The doctors say they need to check the muscles and ligaments, because I cannot feel some parts of my foot and leg and obviously can’t move it.

“Stupid crash from me, threw away the lead.”

Earlier in the SGB Championship meeting, Berwick’s number one Lewis Kerr also suffered an injury, taken out by his own teammate Danyon Hume. The 34-year-old had only just returned from a broken ankle.

Providing an update on the former Poole Pirates rider, Bandits team boss Stewart Dickson said: “Better news on Lewi.

“He hasn’t aggravated the injury he picked up earlier in the season, but is battered and bruised.

“At this stage he is doubtful for Saturday, but we will assess the situation on Thursday and Friday.

“He is due some good fortune because at the moment he has to be the unluckiest rider in British speedway.”

Poole Pirates promoter Danny Ford said: "Our thoughts are very much for the welfare of Bastian and Lewis Kerr as their respective evenings came to abrupt ends.

"Pure racing incidents were the cause of their crashes with neither side willing to give an inch on what was a good racing track that received positive comments amongst all the riders.

"Bastian's fall was particularly nasty and we wish him a very speedy recovery."
