TOM Killick reckons he could slip away for an early season holiday and let his rampant players run the show themselves.

The Poole Town boss has watched his stars rack up five victories on the spin in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division - banking 15 goals and conceding none along the way.

And Killick, whose side face Western League Premier Division outfit Willand Rovers in the FA Cup preliminary round at Tatnam tomorrow (3pm), admits a cool blend of youth and experience in his ranks means he could take off and let his senior stars run the show.

Killick, who has bolstered his squad with the likes of Leigh Phillips, Lamin Dibba and James Bailey-Pearce over the summer, told the Echo: "I think the thing that's really impressed me with the new players is that they already seem to have real spirit about them, which I wouldn't really have expected at this early stage.

"They look quite a close-knit group already, everyone seems to get on well and there doesn't seem to be any backbiting with the players that aren't in the starting 11.

"I'm not naïve enough to think that will always be the case, but at the moment the whole squad seems very unified and it's a happy place to be.

"I feel pleased to have brought this group of players together and they don't need a huge amount of direction. There's a really good element of self-motivation.

"With players like Taffy, Simon Browne and Leigh Phillips I often feel like I could disappear for a few weeks and nobody would notice!"

As well as the experienced heads, Killick also snapped up unknown quantity Charlie Austin during the break - with the former Hungerford and Thatcham Town striker rewarding Killick with four league goals in four starts for Dolphins so far this term.

Killick added: "Charlie is a strong, powerful lad considering he's only 19. Physically he's very, very strong and he just looks a real handful for players. He can hold it up well and he can head it, but he can also run in behind defenders and closes them down very well.

"He's one of those players who kind of landed in our lap. He moved to the area and a friend of mine who used to manage Thatcham rang me up and recommended Charlie to me.

"It's one of those where I didn't go out looking for him or spot him.

"I can't take any credit for him arriving at the club, but he has turned out to be a real find.

"He could easily have ended up somewhere else so I feel quite fortunate that he's ended up with us."

Killick is expected to welcome Trefor Smith back to the squad for tomorrow's cup tie, while Dave Sturgess is also available.
