SUPER Sam Hagon was left “speechless” after being crowned British Speedway Under-21 champion.
After finishing third in his opening ride at Glasgow’s Ashfield Stadium, the 19-year-old Poole Pirates ace embarked on a run of six straight race wins.
That culminated in the final, where he got to the front early and held off the challenge of 2022 champion Leon Flint to take the trophy.
Ashton Boughen finished in third, with former Pirates man Joe Thompson fourth.
Flint topped the standings after the qualifying rounds, his only loss coming to Hagon, who placed second and also went straight through to the final.
Former winners of this event include Grand Prix riders Dan Bewley, Tai Woffinden and Robert Lambert and current Poole Pirates team bosses Gary Havelock and Neil Middleditch.
Reflecting on his win in Glasgow, Hagon said: “I’m a bit speechless, but I knew I was quick enough after beating Leon, who was the best one and was unbeaten apart from that.
“Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me and helped me, I’m just over the moon.
“I wanted it so badly, and I got it.”
Hagon returns to action with Pirates against Redcar Bears at Wimborne Road on Wednesday (7.30pm).
