WIMBORNE Town have lured striker Will Fletcher from Dorchester Town for the 2024-25 Southern League Premier South season.

Fletcher scored 10 goals in 21 appearances for the Magpies after joining from Poole Town midway through last season.

Due to the form of top-scorer Shaq Gwengwe, Fletcher was often a substitute yet still managed to regularly find the back of the net.

He scored some memorable goals, including the leveller in a 4-4 thriller at Totton, a sensational long-range lob in the 2-0 win at Harrow plus winners when the 10-man Magpies toppled Didcot and Tiverton.

Wimborne have unveiled a raft of new recruits this summer and Fletcher is now confirmed as re-committing to a club he left early in his career.

Speaking to Wimborne’s official website, Wimborne manager Tim Sills echoed Dorchester boss Tom Killick’s view that Fletcher has untapped potential.

Sills said: "Fletch is a player I have admired for a while and I’m delighted to work with him for the coming season.

“He has progressed so much in the last few years and will continue to do so while scoring goals for Wimborne, which is a big statement of intent for us."

Fletcher paid tribute to Dorchester after his exit, adding: “A great club full of great people, a massive thank you to the fans for supporting and backing me and the boys this season. All the best next year.”

Dorchester confirmed Fletcher’s exit three hours after Wimborne announced his arrival.

The Magpies said: “We can confirm that Will Fletcher has decided to leave the club to join Wimborne Town.

“We thank Fletch for all of his efforts during his time with us and wish him all the best for the future.”

Fletcher joins Jonny Efedje and Lewis Waterfield in exiting the Magpies this summer.
