PIRATES number three Tom Brennan praised his Poole teammate Richard Lawson after the duo helped their side to a 47-43 victory over Redcar Bears.

Brennan and Lawson led the way for Pirates on home shale, both riders reaching double figures.

A 13-point haul for Brennan made him the star turn on the night, but the 22-year-old shared how he felt that Pirates’ number one Lawson was unlucky to finish the meeting with just 10 points.

Lawson’s bike gave up the ghost in the final lap of heat 14, dropping the fan favourite from first down to fourth.

There was more drama in the final heat, when the wrong flag was shown on the final lap, causing the riders to travel round Wimborne Road one more time.

However, Brennan’s bold move on Jason Edwards came well before the mix-up with the flags, the result declared after four laps.

That gave Brennan his third race win from five races.

Brennan told Pirates’ website: "I think we did one more lap than we wanted to do, which was a bit unexpected.

"But we had a plan going into that last race and we had everything set up pretty good.

“Obviously the nerves were there but at the end of the day, everyone came together and we managed to get that win.

“To be honest I was expecting to have to go off gate three in that last one, but then Richard (Lawson) had that breakdown in heat thirteen and so he gave the choice of gates to me.

“But every decision is like a team decision and I want to give a really big up for Rich.

“He was absolutely phenomenal and didn't deserve to drop any points, but unfortunately that is how speedway goes and I am just happy for the team as we managed to get the job done."
