FIVE former Cherries were involved in Soccer Aid action at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening, as footballing stars and celebrities came together to raise money for charity.

Striker Jermain Defoe, defender Gary Cahill, midfielder Jack Wilshere, and goalkeeper David James all featured for an England side that ended up 6-3 winners over a Rest of the World XI featuring Olympic legend Usain Bolt, boxer Tony Bellew, and former Chelsea star Eden Hazard.

Despite being the only member of the Cherries contingent not to start the game, Defoe came off the bench to grab his third Soccer Aid goal on his third appearance.

Between them the quartet have made 12 Soccer Aid appearances and played a combined 149 times for Cherries.

In the England dugout alongside event organiser Robbie Williams was ex-AFC Bournemouth boss Harry Redknapp, the veteran manager involved for a ninth time.

First played in 2006, Soccer Aid pits former footballers and celebrities together in order to raise money for UNICEF, a humanitarian aid organisation.

This year, just over £15million was raised, bringing the total amount garnered to over £100m.

Originally held every two years, traditionally on the eve of major tournaments, recent editions have been held annually.

England took an early lead through Joe Cole, before a quickfire double via Hazard and Alessandro Del Piero put the World XI ahead.

Former Lioness Ellen White restored parity on the half-hour mark, before a fully of goals in the second period.

Defoe got in on the goalscoring action in the second half, his strike sandwiched between a brace from entrepreneur Steven Bartlett.

Football freestyler Billy Wingrove pulled one back for the World XI from the penalty spot, before former Arsenal star Theo Walcott grabbed England’s sixth with nine minutes to go.
