KEV Robbins believes Suttoners could be a force next season after the much-improved outfit impressed the Blandford skipper on Saturday.

Robbins's side defeated Suttoners to end their Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division season on a high, although the six-wicket success was not enough to overhaul Dorchester in the race for the title.

Despite winning two more matches and earning 22 more points than their rivals, Blandford were condemned to the runners-up berth because Dorchester lead by 1.42 on average.

Following his team's win at the weekend, Robbins tipped Suttoners, who have signed a number of players including Dorset star Darren Cowley during the season, to prove a frontrunner next term.

He said: "With the players they've acquired in the second half of the season, if they retain the services of those, they'll certainly be a very strong contender next year."

Alex White ensured Blandford ended the campaign on a winning note as his unbeaten 86 guided the in-form team to victory over Suttoners.

Chasing 230 to win, White led the way and received solid support from Chris Cole (46) and Dan Brockway (41 not out) during the run chase.

Robbins added: "With Dorchester winning, we couldn't overhaul them. Fair play and congratulations to Dorchester - they are worthy winners.

"We hope to be up there again next year."

PARLEY AVOID DROP

REIGNING champions Broadstone beat Parley in the final round of matches, although the defeated side secured enough points in defeat to avoid relegation from the top flight.

Chasing 229 to win, Parley came up short on 200 all out, despite the best efforts of star player Raj Naik (63).

  • Poole Town (132-4) beat Weymouth (131) by six wickets to secure third position in the table, while Wayfarers (76) failed to spoil Dorchester's (256-7) championship party.

Wimborne and Colehill were handed a walkover victory against relegated Compton House.
