POOLE Pirates will play host to the National League Riders’ Championship later this month.
At the winter AGM, all SGB Championship clubs agreed to do their bit to help the future of the sport in the UK.
And Poole’s part in that will see them host the individual competition between riders in the third tier.
It will take place at Wimborne Road on Wednesday, June 26.
Tickets have been priced at £15 for adults, £13 concessions, £7 for students, £3 for youth (aged 11-16) and free for under-11s.
Pirates season tickets will not be valid for this meeting.
Pirates promoter Danny Ford explained: "As part of our commitment to the development of riders which we signed up to at the winter AGM, we are delighted to be able to bring this marquee event of the NDL season to Poole.
“I am certain that we will be in for 22 heats of exciting individual racing, with the competition being run over the standard 20 heats, where all riders meet their opponents once, and then a semi-final, culminating in a grand final and the crowning of 2024 NDL riders' champion."
He added: "We had initially hoped to have used this spare date in our calendar to fulfil our semi-final home leg in either the Knockout Cup or the BSN Series, but unfortunately neither Scunthorpe nor Workington, respectively, could accommodate us.
“So, with the staging of the NDLRC at least we can all look forward to some racing at Wimborne Road, given that it has been a bit of a barren month for us."
The event will consist of two riders from each National Development League club – Belle Vue Colts, Monarchs Academy, Leicester Cubs, Middlesbrough Tigers, Oxford Chargers and Scunthorpe/Sheffield Stags. Four wild cards will then be added to the field.
Current Pirates’ reserves Sam Hagon and Vinnie Foord currently compete in the National League, with Belle Vue and Leicester respectively.
Connor Bailey won the NDLRC last year, ahead of Max Clegg and Jacob Hook.
Poole last rode on June 5, with no other home meetings scheduled this month.
