MIDFIELDER Tyler Adams felt that it took time for AFC Bournemouth to understand the “minimalist” ways of head coach Andoni Iraola.
Appointed one year ago, Basque boss Iraola has Cherries playing an exciting brand of football at Vitality Stadium.
However, it took Iraola and Cherries nine games to find their first win of the Premier League season, a 2-1 victory over Burnley seeing things click for Bournemouth as they embarked on a fine run of form.
Ultimately, Cherries ended the season in 12th place, setting a new record for points achieved in a single Premier League season.
Speaking to former Premier League goalkeeper Tim Howard in an interview with the Daily Mail, Adams shared: “I think at the beginning it was tough for people to understand because he's a minimalist.
"He doesn't go overboard - draining you with tactics, making things confusing. It's very simple and to the point.
“I think some people were searching for a little bit too much instruction and needed to be guided a little bit too much.”
Despite the slow start, Cherries completely banished suggestions of another relegation dogfight, with Adams claiming that there were members of the dressing room shocked by Iraola’s expectations.
He continued: “Some people that were stable and comfortable in that environment said… what, is this guy crazy?”
