WIMBORNE Town began their pre-season schedule with a 4-0 win over Verwood Town, all the goals coming in the second half.

Competing for the Steve Moore Memorial Trophy at Potterne Park, Tim Sills’s side ran out victorious thanks to a Harry Morgan brace, as well as strikes from Lewis Beale and Matty Neale.

Verwood compete three levels below Wimborne, who were recently promoted into Southern League Premier South.

The match was put together to celebrate the life of Moore, who sadly died in 2016 aged just 32, after a battle with cancer.

During his career, he played for Wimborne, Poppies, Dorchester Town, Christchurch and Verwood.

Magpies captain Scott Arnold said: “It’s always great to play this game in memory of my dear friend Morro, who is missed massively by both our great clubs.

“I can’t believe eight years has passed already, but he will always be remembered by this great occasion.”

After a goalless first half, Beale broke the deadlock just past the hour mark.

The second goal followed through Neale on 79 minutes, before a late double from Morgan.

Magpies are next in action on Saturday, welcoming National League Eastleigh to The Wyatt Homes Stadium.
