UGANDAN Cherries have secured their future for longer after being enrolled as the new Global Cherries Members.

Kakira Cherries FC has received lots of help from Jinja Woman MP Loy Katali, who contacted Ugandan sugar company Kakira Sugar to request their support.

But the Ugandan Cherries have received a lot of help from Ferndown resident Steve Butler, who has helped send football kits, training kits and equipment, football boots and much more to the team

Steve said: “We have changed lives in so many ways, from improving their drinking water supplies by repairing the water pump, we’ve also provided mosquito nets, latrine improvement and rebuilding.

“But now also, through good coaching and inspiration from AFC Bournemouth, we have four boys that arrived off the streets to now becoming professional footballers, playing in the Ugandan Premier League – the top league in Uganda.

“I am so proud of our AFCB family support and involvement, including past and present AFCB players, the club itself and also previous main shirt sponsor MSP Capital.”

On the team’s enrolment, Steve added: “This is extremely good news, which will secure Kakira Cherries FC’s existence, for opening up more opportunities and inspiration for the orphan children at Ibun Orphanage School, together with securing much needed future community education and welfare support.

“Thank you again, for all your continued support, which is really appreciated.”
