ANDONI Iraola confirmed Cherries and Tottenham Hotspur are in talks over a potential sale of Dominic Solanke, but insisted: “Right now, he is our player.”

Solanke, one of the Premier League’s top scorers last season, is subject of interest from Spurs, who are looking to conclude a deal worth £60million.

As it stands, the 26-year-old is due in for training this afternoon ahead of facing Girona in a friendly at Vitality Stadium tomorrow (5.15pm).

Asked for the latest on Solanke’s future, head coach Iraola said: “I expected this to be the first question! I know talks are ongoing.

“It is different from the situation when you asked last week.

“But right now he is our player. That is what I know. I cannot tell you much more.

“Obviously for us, Dom is a very, very important player. But I cannot tell you how this is going to finish.

“Everyone focuses on the goals he scores. He scores a big percentage of our goals.

“But he gives us much more than goals. He is very complete. He helps us in all the phases of the game. He would be a big miss, obviously.

“He is someone who has been very involved. He played all the games in the past season.

“He scored a lot of goals. But if this happens, it has happened in other positions. We have to trust the people inside the club. I am sure they will be ready.

“But I repeat, right now, today, in this moment, Dom continues with us.”

He added: “I hate this part of the season, when we have competition and the window is open. I hate January also, but August is even worse.

“The coaches always complain every year, but they don’t change the rules.

“I don’t know why. They prefer it to be like this. Maybe it’s because of the media around it. But for me, the most logical thing would be once the season starts, it is over.

“But it is not like this and we have to have these three or four weeks with lots of speculation.

“We have to adapt. That’s what we are going to try to do.”

Asked how Cherries could look to reinvest the club-record fee, should a deal for Solanke go through, Iraola added: “I’m not at the table. I don’t ask about money or these things.

“I want to know what the end product is, if Dom is going to continue or not going to continue.

“For sure, I know that not only in the number nine, but the club is ready for whatever happens in any position.

“Once the market is open, all the negotiation have different kinds of difficulties. You never know how it is going to finish.

“My job is to be the coach. Obviously Dom is a very, very important player.

“But we also have very, very good players. I trust the club and I will be behind them, whatever happens.”
