ANDONI Iraola says Enes Unal’s recovery is going to plan, but the striker will not be available for the opening weeks of the season.

Following Dominic Solanke’s sudden departure to Tottenham Hotspur, Cherries look light up front, with inexperienced Daniel Jebbison their only natural senior option in that position.

Antoine Semenyo and Dango Ouattara both play up front for Ghana and Burkina Faso respectively, but Iraola prefers them on the wings.

Unal made a promising impact during his loan spell from Getafe last season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 17 appearances, and became a permanent Cherries player this summer.

Asked when the Turkey international could be back in action, having broken a bone in his foot ahead of Euro 2024, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “Enes has started running.

“He had surgery and they put something in the toe and he couldn’t do almost anything until now.

“Now everything is clear, everything goes in a good way and he started running (on Friday).

“But one thing is to start running and the other thing is to be available to be with the team.

“I think he is going to be out for some weeks.

“We cannot count on him for the first games of the season.”
