CHERRIES won a point in their opening game of the Premier League season thanks to a dramatic late equaliser from Antoine Semenyo.

AFC Bournemouth were behind for much of the second half, after Nottingham Forest opened the scoring through Chris Wood in the 23rd minute.

But Semenyo was in position to finish well after a Forest clearance ricocheted into his path, just four minutes from time.

Cherries handed a Premier League debut to new signing Dean Huijsen, after the 19-year-old signed from Juventus in the summer.

Fellow new signing, Evanilson, who was announced on Friday, did not make the squad, while Julian Araujo, signed from Barcelona in the week, was named on the bench.

The home side were captained by Morgan Gibbs-White, with their lineup also featuring Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga.

With no out-and-out striker in the lineup, with Evanilson missing out, it was Antoine Semenyo who started through the middle.

The south coast side won the first corner of the game six minutes in, but this was headed over for a goal kick.

There was some concern around the ground as Semenyo and Danilo clashed in the centre circle after seven minutes.

The Bournemouth player received treatment and was able to carry on, but Danilo was stretchered off the field to a standing ovation after a seven-minute delay with a nasty ankle injury.

Ryan Yates replaced the Forest midfielder and looked bright, playing an instrumental role in the home side’s opening goal after 23 minutes.

A clearing header cannoned into the path of the onrushing Yates, whose effort was straight at Neto in the Cherries goal.

The ‘keeper should have done better and his save fell kindly into the path of Chris Wood, who made no mistake, finishing well into the bottom corner.

The hosts were in the ascendancy and Neto was called into action to save from Anthony Elanga’s long range effort.

Cherries thought they had equalised after a neat corner routine was flashed across goal by Cook, with the home side unable to clear.

The ball fell to Dango Ouattara, who blasted the ball into the roof of the net, but Cook was marginally offside in the build-up, and VAR chalked the goal off.

Forest continued to find space in the Bournemouth ranks and troubled Neto’s goal again, but couldn’t find another opening.

Luis Sinisterra went close for Cherries after a Forest penalty shout was waved away and he was played in, with Matz Sels getting down to save well.

Cherries worked their way back into the half during the 11 added minutes, with an Alex Scott free-kick being comfortably caught by the Forest ‘keeper.

Lewis Cook was booked late on in the half, as Cherries went into the break behind.

After the break, it was Milos Kerkez who was next to be booked, with Neco Williams also seeing yellow not long afterwards.

Forest made a double substitution, as Ola Aina and Anthony Elanga were replaced by Harry Toffolo and Nicolas Dominguez, before a fantastic Neto save from a Willy Boly header from a Forest corner.

Iraola went to his bench next, with Scott, Smith and Sinisterra replaced by debutant Julian Araujo, Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert.

Bournemouth fans had loud penalty shouts waved away by referee Oliver after Semenyo did well on the left wing, before Daniel Jebbison came on for his Premier League debut for the club, replacing Ouattara.

Forest made their final changes of the game, as Wood and Hudson-Odoi were replaced by Elliot Anderson and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Into the final 10 minutes of the game, Cherries pushed for the equaliser and were rewarded just four minutes from time.

Ryan Christie’s driven cross across the face of goal wasn’t cleared, with a large deflection off a defender from an attempted clearance landing the ball at Semenyo’s feet.

He made no mistake and the travelling fans went wild, chanting ‘Nottingham Forest, it’s happened again’, after last season’s dramatic late win at the City Ground.

Both sides pushed for the winner late on, but neither could find the breakthrough.

Forest's Awoniyi should have restored the home side's lead with just moments left of the 90 minutes, getting inside Araujo at the back post, but his header was straight at Neto.

Cherries host Newcastle for their opening home game of the season next Sunday, August 25.
