ANDONI Iraola is expecting ‘a lot of threats’ from Newcastle United as they come to the Vitality Stadium this weekend.

The Cherries boss was previewing the clash with former AFC Bournemouth player and manager Eddie Howe on Sunday, August 25.

He told the Daily Echo: “For me, I expect a lot of threats.

“Offensively they are very good in transitions. Very, very good.

“So, every mistake you make in your build up, like the other day, even with ten against Southampton, one mistake, boom, one pass, you concede a goal.”

But Iraola said the Magpies will also be wary of the threat that the home side brings.

“We will try to do the same with them,” he said.

“So, I think we are both two teams that we can attack on the ball but also we can attack without it.

“We have to be very focused in which positions you lose the ball, how you react, how you transition defensively.

“Because obviously they cross a lot, they are very good in set plays, different threats.

“I don't know if Trippier is going to play, if Livramento is going to play.

“But, you know, they are very good.

“Different skills, but we have to be ready to defend the crosses, to defend the transitions, to defend one against ones.

“Even Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon, [Miguel] Almiron and [Jacob] Murphy, they have a lot of different options, and also they have very good subs at the end that can make the difference.”

Reflecting on last week’s draw with Nottingham Forest, Iraola felt his side was closer to winning the game than losing it.

“I think we had the most clear chances, but I wasn't fully pleased with the performance, especially first half,” he said.

“I think we started quite well, but after Danilo's injuries we lost the rhythm, everything went too slow and probably we didn't finish well the first half.

“We conceded the goal and we didn't finish strong. I think we were better in the second half.

“We managed at least to get one point. It's not the result probably we wanted, but also we have to value because I think it's a difficult place to play.”

Newcastle beat newly promoted Southampton at St James’ Park last Saturday, despite being reduced to 10 men in the first half.

Iraola said this meant the game was ‘not a lot of help’ for them to analyse heading into this Sunday’s game.

“Southampton play with a different system, different style, it’s very conditioned, the game, with the red card, I think is very good from their side.

“They win a game where they play with ten men from the first half. They are tying 0-0 and they managed to find a way to win this game.

“I think they are very good players and they are experienced players.

“When you see Bruno, you see Joelinton, you see Isak, you see Gordon.

“Even if they are playing with one less, they are always going to be a threat.”
