MARCOS Senesi said the Cherries team are ‘gutted’ after late heartbreak saw them exit the Carabao Cup in the second round.

The Argentine played all 90 minutes of the game at West Ham, which saw Jarrod Bowen score an 88th minute winner for the home side – which appeared to hit his arm on the way into the net.

But Cherries were left to rue missed chances as they were unable to convert and fell to a 1-0 loss.

The 27-year-old told the Daily Echo after the game: “We’re gutted because we created chances.

“We created the chances to score, to win the game.

“At the end if we don’t score, it is like that.

“They scored at the end of the game, maybe if there is a VAR, maybe it gets cancelled, but we are out of the cup and now we have to look forward to Everton at the weekend.”

On his view of the goal, Senesi said: “I saw that he didn’t hit the ball, the ball went to his hand.

“But the linesman is in front of the goal line and he could easily see it, but at the end, people can make mistakes.”

The late disappointment followed a stoppage time winner disallowed by VAR.

When asked about parking those disappointments ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game on Merseyside, Senesi said: “We know that going to Everton’s stadium is a hard stadium, it’s a tough place to go and get points.

“We are going to try our best and try to get a result over there.”
