POOLE Town have progressed through to the next round of the FA Cup.

The Dolphins are through to the FA Cup Second Round Qualifying after beating Swindon Supermarine 2-0 in a replay at the BlackGold Stadium.

Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at The Webbswood Stadium, Poole were forced into an FA Cup replay but came out on top under the lights at The BlackGold Stadium after goals from Tyrique Clarke and Toby Holmes secured a 2-0 win.

Steve Tully made three changes from the weekend’s draw with Antonio Diaz, Tyrique Clarke and Billy Lowes all coming in to start.

The game got underway with a high paced tempo with both sides showing glimpses of promise in the early stages.

Swindon Supermarine thought they took the lead after 15 minutes, but Sims-Burgess’ effort was ruled out due to him straying offside.

The end-to-end action continued throughout the first half with both sides going close.

The deadlock was finally broken just before half time as Clarke showed his class and whipped a beautiful curling effort into the top left corner on his weak foot to give Poole the lead going into the break.

Supermarine started the second half as the better side but were unable to convert any of their chances due to some brilliant defensive effort from the Poole back line.

The Dolphins doubled their lead around the 80th minute mark as substitutes Jack Hoey and Toby Holmes combined for the number nine to slot it home from close range.

The full-time whistle ended proceedings at The BlackGold Stadium with the Dolphins progressing through to the FA Cup Second Round Qualifying where they will face Taunton Town at home on the 14th of September.

After the game, Steve Tully said: “It was a really good positive performance, all over the pitch we were resolute and hard to beat.”

Tully added: “If we keep clean sheets, we’ve got a chance of winning games and we’re doing that at the moment, but we have got to keep pushing and working hard.”
