ICONIC manager Harry Redknapp stepped back into management for a one-off game between Poole Town Legends and Hamworthy United Legends this past  Sunday.

The charity game was a special occasion for Hamworthy United manager Dan Cann who was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease last month.

The Poole Town Legends won the game 5-2, in what was a fantastic day at the County Ground for a very worthy cause.

There were an estimated 1,500 people inside the ground on Sunday afternoon for Dan Cann’s fundraiser event.

I spoke with Harry Redknapp after the game, and he said: “There was a lot of love here today for Dan and so many people turned up which is great to see.

“The community are wonderful, when someone needs a bit of help, people always come and support, and it was wonderful today.”

There were some fantastic names from the local football scene involved in the game on Sunday with the likes of Steve Fletcher and Taffy Richardson making an appearance.

On the event, Redknapp said: “It was great to see some of the old faces playing football again and we will hopefully have raised a lot of money because Dan deserves it.”

Redknapp jokingly mentioned a possible return to management, as he said: “I might be making a comeback, I said to Tommy (Killick), if you need an assistant, I’m ready.”

The experienced manager last took to the management stage with a spell at Birmingham City in 2017. Throughout his 34-year career, the ex-Spurs gaffer has managed some fantastic players and had some unforgettable experiences.

Redknapp started his managerial career with AFC Bournemouth in 1983 when the Cherries were in the Third Division, before going on to manage the likes of Portsmouth and West Ham.

One of his most memorable moments during his career was lifting the FA Cup trophy with Portsmouth in the 2007/08 season.

He discussed some of the greatest names he’s managed, as he said: “The likes of Gareth Bale, Rio Ferdinand and Sol Campbell; I had so many fantastic players over the years.

“I just love football, and the standard today was really good, all the players showed their skills today.”

Since his retirement from management, Redknapp has taken to the life of fame in other ways as he was crowned King of the Jungle in 2018 after winning the show ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’.

On what was a truly special occasion for Dan Cann, Redknapp added: “The main thing was that the players and fans came out and enjoyed it so that was nice and I’m sure that everybody had a great day.

“It was all about supporting Dan today, that’s why we’re here, and we will continue to support him, I will for sure.”
