AFC BOURNEMOUTH return to Merseyside for the second time in September as they travel to Liverpool.

Cherries will be hoping to break their duck at Anfield, having never beaten their hosts, their best result on the red side of the city a 2-2 draw in December 2016.

But last time out in Liverpool Bournemouth surged to a stunning late victory across Stanley Park at Everton, and they’ll be hoping to return to the south coast with three points once again.

The Daily Echo previews today’s clash on Merseyside.

Team News

Andoni Iraola confirmed that the only player who is guaranteed to miss the trip to the north west is Tyler Adams, who continues his recovery from injury.

The Cherries boss was hoping to make an assessment on Dango Ouattara on Friday to see if he was fit to travel, after he picked up an injury on international duty with Burkina Faso.

Enes Unal returned from injury last weekend against Chelsea and came off the bench for the final seven minutes.

They will also still be without Harvey Elliott, who is injured, but otherwise have a fully fit squad.

Head-to-Head

Cherries do not have a good record at Anfield.

They have only picked up one point against Liverpool away from home since reaching the Premier League, drawing 2-2 in April 2022, after Cherries beat Liverpool 4-3 at Dean Court the previous December.

But since, Cherries have been defeated in every game at Anfield, conceding 20 goals in five games and scoring just two.

This included a 9-0 defeat in August 2022.

Goals from Luis Diaz and Mohammed Salah before the break gave Liverpool the halftime lead, before a Diogo Jota goal with just under half an hour put the victory beyond doubt, despite an Alexis MacAllister red card.

Last Time Out

Cherries come into the game off the back of their first defeat of the season, falling to a late defeat against Chelsea at the Vitality Stadium, despite having the better of the game.

Club record signing Evanilson saw his first half penalty saved by Robert Sanchez as Bournemouth were unable to convert their chances.

The Reds travelled to Milan midweek in the Champions League and handily beat AC Milan 3-1, with goals from Ibrahim Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool sit fourth in the league on nine points, while Cherries are 11th on five points.
