DANNY Ford has called on Pirates fans new and old to back the team as they aim to retain the BSN Series trophy tomorrow.

Poole are on the brink of not needing to return the trophy to the BSPL Rugby offices but the Poole promoter has urged fans to show their support at Wimborne Road.

Pirates have a strong lead over Scunthorpe after the first leg and are hoping to be bolstered by the return of skipper Ben Cook after his mandatory concussion stand-down.

“We know that nothing is actually won yet but the boys were formidable at Scunthorpe on Sunday and have put us in a very strong position of being the only club to win this competition,” Ford said.

“I can assure fans that the boys are determined to finish the job on Wednesday and will be going out to put on a similar showing to Sunday.

“To a man they have all been excellent and to hold a sixteen point is fantastic, but I can tell you, that might have been even greater as the team fought hard in what was a great first leg.

“We are rapidly running out of meetings for this incredible season and so I would urge fans to come along and get as much of their speedway fix before the winter closes in on us.”

Pirates hold a 16-point lead after a strong 53-37 victory over Scunthorpe in the away leg of the final.

They are hoping to welcome back Ben Cook to hopefully lead them to what Pirates hope will be the first of three trophies this season.

Scunthorpe will be without influential reserve Luke Harrison, who is involved in the FIM European U19 competition in Germany on Thursday.

They have booked Paul Starke to guest, while former British U19 and U22 champion Leon Flint will guest in place of number one Michael Palm-Toft who is injured.

Poole are set to take on Oxford in both the KO Cup final and the SGB Cab Direct Championship Grand Final.

The Championship final saw both legs postponed from last week and are set to take place on Saturday, October 5 and Wednesday, October 9.
