A POOLE running club has won a prestigious Club of the Year award at the England Athletics Regional Volunteer Awards.
Poole Runners took the award for the South West Region at the awards which were held in Exeter last Saturday.
Club chair Shannon Evans was presented with the prize by long distance runner and five-time Olympian Jo Pavey MBE.
The award recognised the club’s commitment to encourage and inclusive support for all its members in athletics and running for all ages, abilities, experience and aspirations.
As well as a growing membership, the club has an expanding group of volunteers as it encourages parents to help at training sessions, with many going on to gain coaching qualifications.
Shannon said: “We are so thrilled to have won this award, which recognises the huge amount of time and dedication given by our club's fantastic volunteers.
“We are especially proud of the achievements of our junior squad and the massive growth we have seen in the years since covid.”
Members of Poole Runners, Charlotte Phillips, Andy and Claudia Howse were recognised for their volunteering achievements and their impact on the community.
Charlotte won the Newcomer to Volunteering Award, with Andy and Claudia taking the Inspiring Officials Award.
