DANNY Ford was pleased with a ‘rampant’ Pirates performance as they retained the BSN Series title.

The Poole promoter spoke to the Daily Echo after Pirates secured a 110-70 aggregate victory in the final at Wimborne Road.

He said: “[It was a] really good performance. Just the kind of thing we were looking for.

“Obviously we went into the meeting with not a lot of pressure. We felt we're strong enough at home to be able to defend a 14-point lead, certainly. And the boys were just rampant tonight, 57-33.

“It's a great victory and there's two really tough fixtures to come now against Oxford and that hopefully kind of propels us into that and gives us a bit of good momentum.”

On the importance of that momentum, Ford said it was key to carry this into meetings as others aren’t riding as frequently as Poole have.

“A few guys aren't riding, with delays, weather wise and stuff like that, it's really important that we're riding and Oxford perhaps aren't riding quite as much,” he said. “So that's a real positive. And a win, where everyone could contribute tonight, which is really nice, it was a good team performance, which is what we're looking for.

“Next week is the big one and that's the real decider.

“That's where we judge how our season's gone. So, tonight's done us a lot of good, but, we can't really dwell on it too much.

“We’ve just got to carry that confidence now into the Grand Final.”

Ford is hopeful that the BSN Series title is the first of three trophies for Pirates, with the Championship Grand Final and KO Cup final, both against Oxford, to come.

“This is probably the smallest of the three competitions,” he said.

“Against Scunthorpe, it's never going to be a particularly exhilarating meeting.

“Obviously it's a few hundred miles that separate the two clubs, but again, against Oxford, I think it's fair to say that's probably the biggest fixture since us joining the Championship in 2021.

“I think it's going to be a sellout crowd, and two tasty looking teams, it's a bit of needle in there as well.

“So we're certainly looking forward to that one.”
