MARCUS Tavernier is ‘over the moon’ for former Cherries teammate Dominic Solanke on his first call up for England for the first time in seven years.

The striker was unlucky to miss out on inclusion in the Three Lions’ squad in the summer for the European Championships, after scoring 19 goals in the Premier League for Bournemouth last season.

Over the summer, Solanke was signed by Tottenham Hotspur for a fee that could reach £65million, the most expensive signing of the summer window for an English club.

He has since scored twice in five league games for his new club in the league, and has netted once in the Europa League.

Solanke will hope to make his first international appearance since his debut in 2017 against Brazil tonight against Greece.

Speaking after the final game before the international break at Leicester, Tavernier said: “I'm so happy for him for getting in the squad.

“It's long overdue.

“I thought maybe last season he might have got a sniff to get in there but I'm over the moon for him and I'm sure if he gets a chance, he'll grab it with both hands.”
