TOBIAS Thomsen produced a man-of-the-meeting performance to help Pirates secure the Cab Direct Championship title.

Poole faced a huge challenge going into the second leg at Wimborne Road, having fallen to a 12-point defeat away against Oxford Cheetahs in the first leg.

But Pirates produced a remarkable comeback to take the aggregate victory, eventually winning by 22 points on the night to win by ten on the aggregate.

Reserve Thomsen was one of the Pirates riders who was in particularly fine form to help take the title, with the Dane taking a total of 10+2 points on the night.

Speaking on his emotions after the meeting, Thomsen told the Daily Echo: “[I feel] proud, to be honest, of all of the team, the management, the staff, everything around it is not just one man, it's the whole club, they lift this.

“So [it’s an] awesome feeling.”

“We always believe that, that's the main thing today, fighting in each heat and fighting for each point,” he said. “That's why we win today, we wanted it better than they wanted it, so that's why we won.”

On his personal performance in the second leg, Thomsen said he was ‘absolutely over the moon’ with it.

“To have a meeting like this in the final, I can't complain,” he said.

“I knew I could do it and luckily tonight I did it, so I'm happy.”

Poole are hopeful they can secure the treble in 2024 by adding that title to the Championship and BSN Series trophies they have already won.

On the prospect of the third title, Thomsen said: “We're going to repeat this next week only we’re going to make the job a bit easier at Oxford, hopefully.”
