ALEX Scott faces a spell on the sidelines after he had surgery to repair an injury he picked up in his knee this week.

The midfielder, who started for AFC Bournemouth in their 2-0 win over Arsenal at the weekend, had a procedure to repair an injury to his meniscus which he sustained earlier this week, the club said.

The procedure was a success, the Cherries said, with the club wishing him well in his recovery.

The meniscus sits between the tibia and the femur and protects the lower part of the leg from shock created by body weight.

The Cherries boss, Andoni Iraola, praised the 21-year-old after his performance against the Gunners, saying he had trained very well in the lead up to the match.

Iraola said he was brought into the side to keep the ball and give Bournemouth ‘a chance to breathe’ when in possession.

The Englishman was effective in disrupting Arsenal attacks, too, with the Basque boss saying he thought he played well, before he was substituted for eventual goal scorer Ryan Christie on 63 minutes.

Scott has been involved in every Cherries game so far this season, starting three times, twice in the league and once in the League Cup, and coming off the bench in the six other league games.
