ALEX Scott will be out of action for more than six weeks after he had surgery on his meniscus this week, Andoni Iraola confirmed.

The midfielder is set for a spell on the sidelines after the operation, which the Cherries said was a success.

Asked about Scott’s injury, the Bournemouth boss said it had happened ‘in a bad moment’.

“You have something like this, but especially after a very good performance from Alex [against Arsenal],” Iraola said.

“He trained the next day, but after training he was feeling pain on the knee.

“He went to do the MRI and we could see he had a tear in the meniscus.

“We decided, the doctors decided to have surgery and decide in the moment if it was something that could be repaired or just in other cases they remove one part.

“So it's worse if they remove it worse for him in the mid- to long-term.

“Maybe the period where he is out is shorter, but considering his age, if there was a chance to repair the meniscus, it was a clear decision and I think the surgeon has the right decision.

“Luckily they could repair the meniscus. That probably is going to be much, much better for him mid- to long-term.

“But it's true that he will be out more time now in the short period.”

On a timescale for his return, the Basque boss said Scott will be out for definitely more than six weeks.

Iraola said: “Six weeks was probably if they remove the meniscus, if they repair it you have to wait more because now he has to be some sometime without doing anything and it will be more, but I don't know how much.”
