IT WAS a historic afternoon at the Vitality Stadium yesterday as AFC Bournemouth beat Premier League champions Manchester City for the first time.

Dean Court erupted as the Cherries secured a famous 2-1 win over the Citizens, a result that sees Bournemouth move up to eighth in the league.

Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring after just nine minutes, with the Cherries holding a deserved lead at half time.

The lead was doubled by Evanilson shortly after the hour mark, the Brazilian scoring his third goal for the Cherries since joining in the summer from FC Porto, netting in consecutive games after his equaliser at Villa last weekend.

City got one goal back through Josko Gvardiol with eight minutes to play, but Bournemouth held off late pressure in a nervy finish to seal a fantastic victory.
