WESSEX Men’s volleyball team progressed in the National Shield with a victory over Wiltshire Mavericks.
The side repeated their feat in beating Wiltshire two weeks in a row, but this time in the shield and away from home.
They opened up on full power, with their tough serving putting the pressure on their hosts, with Seb Smith and Marcos Perez Martin providing strong middle attacks.
Jamie Keates took over as setter, with Michael Wahl switching to outside hitter and Sam Reid to opposite.
Wessex took the first set 25-14, before a Wiltshire fightback in the second.
But the visitors held on to win it 25-23, before another close third set, with Jaden Malpas and Reid hitting effectively to take Wessex to a 25-22 win to clinch a 3-0 victory and a place in the last 16 of the National Shield.
Wessex now have a break in their fixtures until the new year, but will continue to train up to four times a week to prepare for success in the second half of the season.
Members of the team will be playing in other games, though, with Bournemouth University students competing in a full schedule of student matches and the younger players taking part in the National Junior Championships.
The women’s first team have several Super League matches, too, as well as the Wessex Hendy Vauxhall team, competing in the South West Women’s League.
