LEWIS Cook has been drawing plenty of praise for his performances in a Cherries shirt recently.

The English midfielder has been rightly hailed for the role he has played in the past weeks, as a key cog in the AFC Bournemouth victories over Arsenal and Manchester City.

This has translated into calls for Cook to be recognised with a call up to the England squad – but, in Lee Carsley’s final squad as interim Three Lions boss for the Nations League, he was not included.

Cook’s boss at the Cherries, Andoni Iraola, said he was not sure if there had been any discussions between the England camp and Cook on his performances, admitting he doesn’t know how the process works.

“I can only encourage him to continue performing the way he's performing,” Iraola said. “No, I think I cannot say anything about it, I don't know.

“I don't see all the games, all the players, the ones who play abroad, and I don't think about the level of their performances.

“The only thing I can say is that Lewis has been absolutely vital for us.

“He's performing very, very well with the consistency that we were talking about at the end.

“It’s the more valuable thing when you can trust a player in their best games and even in the worst games, he can help the team in a different way.

“He's doing very, very well.”
