A YOANE Wissa brace saw the Cherries go into the final international break of 2024 off the back of a defeat at the hands of Brentford.
Bournemouth led through Evanilson after 17 minutes, but the sides went into half time at 1-1 thanks to a Wissa equaliser.
A whirlwind start to the second half saw the Cherries retake the lead through Justin Kluivert, before Mikkel Damsgaard and Wissa netted to give Brentford a 3-2 lead with just over half an hour to play.
The home side saw out the remainder of the game to send Bournemouth back to the south coast empty handed.
Andoni Iraola made two changes from the side that beat Manchester City in Bournemouth last weekend.
Kepa Arrizabalaga returned from an abductor injury to replace Mark Travers in goal, after Travers had impressed against Aston Villa and City.
Tyler Adams made his first start of the season, replacing Marcus Tavernier, who dropped to the bench.
Thomas Frank made one change from his team that fell to a late defeat at Fulham on Monday night, Mathias Jensen replacing Mads Roerslev.
After a well-observed silence and the Last Post for Remembrance Weekend, the Cherries got the game underway.
The visitors looked bright in the opening exchanges and went close after a great run by Ryan Christie to the byline, but there were no Cherries players to meet his cut back across the face of goal.
Antoine Semenyo drew a good save from Mark Flekken in the Brentford net after 11 minutes, cutting into the box and letting fly with his left, but the keeper got down to turn it behind.
Bournemouth should have opened the scoring just before the 15-minute mark, but Marcos Senesi couldn’t keep his effort down from a fantastic ball to the far post by Christie.
But they didn’t have to wait long to get the first goal of the afternoon.
It was a calamity at the back for the home side, as Sepp Van Den Berg looked to find his keeper with a back pass after Nathan Collins dispossessed Semenyo, but Evanilson picked off his pass to put him in on goal.
The Brazilian eased his way past Flekken and it was his easiest finish in a Bournemouth shirt so far, rolling the ball into an empty net with 17 minutes on the clock.
The hosts levelled the game 10 minutes later.
A long throw into the box was first flicked on by Milos Kerkez under pressure, before a van den Berg header found Yoane Wissa, who headed home into the far corner past Kepa.
There was a VAR check for a possible handball, but the goal was given.
Lewis Cook dragged an effort wide just after the restart, before Senesi went into the book for a foul on Wissa, after the DR Congo man won the ball off the Argentine and surged into the Cherries half.
Bournemouth were patient with a good spell of possession before the break, but they couldn’t manufacture a chance and the sides went into the break at level pegging.
It was a whirlwind start to the second half as the Cherries retook the lead on 49 minutes.
Kluivert played a neat one-two with Cook after a short corner routine, with the Dutchman blasting home at the near post.
But the hosts went up the other end and levelled within a minute.
Mikkel Damsgaard was played in by Brian Mbeumo and the Dane shot from a tight angle, beating Kepa at his near post.
The hosts took the lead for the first time in the game shortly before the hour mark through Wissa once again.
Vitaly Janelt played a neat dummy on the left and was given the ball in space in front of the Bournemouth defence, playing a pinpoint ball in for Wissa, who lifted the ball past Kepa.
Bournemouth had loud penalty shouts waved away after a challenge on Evanilson, before Mbeumo fired an effort over the bar.
Iraola went to his bench, with Dean Huijsen and Tavernier coming on to replace Senesi and Adams.
Christie went into the book after a foul on Mathias Jensen, before Enes Unal and David Brooks replaced Christie and Kluivert.
Kepa saved from a Jensen effort after a scrappy bit of play on the floor just outside the Cherries box as the game entered the final 15 minutes.
Yehor Yarmoliuk replaced Jensen for the Bees, before Adam Smith went into the book for a foul on Mbeumo as Brentford looked to counter.
Julian Araujo replaced Smith, as the Cherries went in search of an equaliser.
Huijsen hit the bar deep into stoppage time as Tavernier did well to get a cross in from the byline on the left, but Bournemouth were unable to find the leveller and the Bees took all three points.
