WIMBORNE Town once again held a lead at half time but made it count this week, going on to beat Taunton Town 3-0.

Manager Tim Sills made two changes to his eleven, with Billy Walker and Harry Morgan coming into the side.

Their visitors Taunton came into the game high on confidence and within two points of the top five.

Taunton had the first sight of goal in the first minute, before Walker imposed himself on the game with a fine sliding challenge to stop the Peacocks’ next attack.

Josh Carmichael went close direct from a corner, his set piece striking the base of the post after eluding everyone in the box.

There was a long delay after 12 minutes as Taunton’s Owers received treatment after being knocked unconscious on the byline.

The teams were taken off the pitch, and, after 10 minutes of careful treatment, Owers was able to walk to the dressing room with assistance.

After the resumption, the action continued at both ends.

Wimborne opened the scoring on 32 minutes, as Carmichael found Matty Burrows on the left, with the winger getting to the byline and then firing past the keeper from a tight angle.

The game continued at a fast pace but Wimborne took their one-goal lead into the break.

The hosts extended their lead just before the hour mark after the pace of the game continued at the start of the second period.

Adam Biss’ throw-in was flicked on by Will Fletcher and Burrows latched on to a weak header back to the keeper to poke home.

The Magpies were in control and their lead was three not long after, as Carmichael played a brilliant ball in beyond the defence, with Fletcher controlling well and finishing into the corner.

Wimborne saw the game out comfortably and move up to 12th in the league, just three points behind fourth-placed Walton and Hersham.
