THE Cherries entered the international break on Saturday with a disappointing 3-2 defeat on the road at Brentford.

Evanilson gave Bournemouth a deserved lead after 17 minutes, before Yoane Wissa scored for the hosts to send the sides in at half time at 1-1.

A fast start to the second half from the Cherries gave them the lead once again, Justin Kluivert netting from a neat corner routine.

But within a minute of taking the lead the game was all square again, as Mikkel Damsgaard found the back of the net, before Wissa added his second eight minutes later to give the Bees a lead they would not relinquish.

Here are the Daily Echo’s player ratings for the defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Kepa Arrizabalaga - 5

Seemed to struggle a bit with the aerial battle from Brentford’s long throws and set pieces. Should have done better with the second Brentford goal as he was beaten at his near post.

Made a couple of solid stops but there was always going to be scrutiny on his performance after he replaced Mark Travers who had been excellent against Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Milos Kerkez - 6

Looked bright overlapping on the left but was largely more defensively minded to deal with the threat of Mbeumo, a job he did well. Made a fantastic challenge at 2-2 to stop a two-on-one for the home side.

A solid game for Zabarnyi, doing well in the air but struggling a little with the pace and threat of Wissa. Booked for a foul on the forward as the game entered the final minutes.

Marcos Senesi – 5

Not Senesi’s best game at centre back for the Cherries, particularly with his recent high standards. Missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring after 15 minutes but couldn’t keep his shot down.

Like his centre back partner, defensively struggled with the pace of Wissa, and he was booked for fouling the DR Congo international in the first half, after he’d been dispossessed by the forward. Substituted for Dean Huijsen with just over 20 minutes to play.

Adam Smith - 6

A solid enough game for Smith but did on occasion struggle a little with the pace of the Brentford forward line. Booked inside the final ten minutes for a foul on Mbeumo as the Bees looked to counter.

Lewis Cook -7

Another strong performance from Cook, as he showed England what they are missing from him in midfield. He was everywhere and gave everything for the full 90, regularly busting a gut to make important challenges, particularly as the game wore on and there were more tired legs.

Ryan Christie – 6

Was effective in the middle of the park, and created some good chances for the Cherries, particularly as they started the game well. Not as good as Cook in controlling the midfield and let the game get away from him on occasion – booked for dragging back Jensen with around 20 minutes to play.

Tyler Adams- 6

An ok return to the starting 11 for Adams, doing a lot of running and good work in the midfield. Outjumped by Sepp van den Berg for the first Brentford goal.

Substituted after 67 minutes for Marcus Tavernier, likely to manage his return to full fitness.

Antoine Semenyo – 6

A couple of bright moments for the Ghanaian in both halves, but one of his quieter games recently.

(Image: John Walton/PA Wire) Justin Kluivert – 7

Took his goal really well from a neat corner routine early in the second half. Combined nicely with Kerkez on the left side, and looked one of the Cherries’ brightest attacking outlets on the afternoon.

Evanilson - 7

Looked energetic throughout and was a threat. Took his goal brilliantly, calmly rounding the keeper after great anticipation to cut out the back pass. Also played the full 90 minutes for the first time in a Cherries shirt and looked out on his feet as the final whistle went, but gave everything.

Substitutes:

Dean Huijsen – 6

Marcus Tavernier – 5

Enes Unal – 5

David Brooks – 5

Julian Araujo – 4
