JUSTIN Kluivert was disappointed to come away from Brentford empty handed but said the Cherries side have ‘big ambitions’.
Kluivert played 76 minutes of the 3-2 defeat to the Bees in the capital, and got himself on the scoresheet thanks to a neat set piece routine early in the second half.
His goal was to retake the lead, after Bournemouth had led in the first half through Evanilson but were pegged back by their hosts through Yoane Wissa.
Brentford went on to equalise just moments after Kluivert found the back of the net, and Wissa netted again eight minutes later to secure the points for the home side.
Reflecting on the game, the Dutchman told the Daily Echo: “It's a disappointing result for us today because coming in front two times away against a great team, Brentford at home, as we know, it's a pity that you give it away two times.”
Cherries had worked on the routine that saw him score after 49 minutes.
Kluivert explained that theRyan Christie took a corner kick short to Tyler Adams, who played it back to Christie, who then passed to Kluivert on the edge of the box.
Kluivert then played a slick one-two with Lewis Cook and then hammered the ball home first time, beating Mark Flekken at the near post.
Speaking on the goal, Kluivert said: “We work on that kind of stuff, set pieces is massive nowadays.
“We got a goal from that, we scored, we came in front again.
“But like I said, those minutes after a goal is always vulnerable, you score again or you get a goal against.
“It's always difficult and unfortunately we got a goal against. But what I say, yes, it's a pity, credits to Brentford, they did good also, and we just got an international break now and just keep focusing after.
The Cherries threw everything at getting an equaliser, with Dean Huijsen striking the bar deep in stoppage time, via a small deflection of teammate Enes Unal.
“We looked at it back, Dean headed it and he headed it onto Enes, just a little bit on his back head and if he wouldn't touch it, it would go in, and that's football,” Kluivert said.
“Football is the details, small details, and if you see the video back, it's such a small thing or else it goes in.
“But that's the beauty about football also, and unfortunately it wasn't for us today, but for them.”
Looking into the international break and beyond, Kluivert says the side still has a lot of ambition for the season.
“We are, you could say, nicely placed, but our ambitions are big,” he said. “We came here with the ambition to get up in the standings and that didn't happen today. But what I said, the season is still long and let's not get stuck on this game. Let's move forward, let's look forward and work hard because we have some good games coming up.
“Brighton at home, away at Wolves that need to give us big points. So let's go for that.”
