CHRIS Billam-Smith’s opponent in his cruiserweight unification fight on Saturday, Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez has admitted that he doesn’t know much about ‘The Gentleman’.
Ramirez admitted to DAZN at the ‘Latino Night’ open workout that the Bournemouth boxer was not one he knew a lot about, but that he will be a good challenge for him.
“I know not much about him, I know that he’s a champion, he’s a great champion,” the Mexican said.
“But he has something that I want, another belt and I want to accomplish it.”
‘Zurdo’ said Billam-Smith represents a good challenge for him, and said one of the keys to getting a result will be being smart from the start.
“I want to try to give the fans whatever they want to see in the ring and I want to keep my belt and take another belt,” Ramirez said.
The 33-year-old southpaw said he is enjoying the challenge of being in the cruiserweight division, having moved up to it, as previous super middleweight WBO champion.
“It’s great to be in this division, it’s challenging for me because those guys they’re big and they’ve been fighting in this division for a long time,” Ramirez said.
“I’d like to prove to myself that I can do it, that’s why I came into this sport because I was thinking to myself you can do it, I believe in myself.”
