VINNIE Foord has left Poole Pirates to join Workington Comets for next season.

The 18-year-old doubled his starting 2.0 average after joining Pirates midway through last season and helped Poole to the treble.

Foord was the subject of some attention ahead of the second leg of the Championship KO Cup, after he said he was subject to death threats in the first leg at Oxford.

He had been involved in two controversial crashes in the Championship Grand Final at Wimborne Road in October.

Foord told the Daily Echo after the KO Cup that he had not secured a spot in a side for 2025, but it has now been confirmed that he will be riding for Workington next season.

An impressive display in the Championship play-off semi-final between Poole and the Cumbrian side attracted the side to him and they have secured his signature for 2025.

Comets promoter Andrew Bain said: “Vinnie’s race against us last season really caught our eye. He embodies what we’re trying to achieve in our club and is a rider who will never give up, and I’m sure with the personality and racer’s mentality he has, he will become a fan favourite very quickly.

“As soon as we found out Vinnie was available next year, we had to get him on board. I felt it was an easy decision for him as well, he really likes Northside and every time he has been here showed great potential.

“Vinnie is the second part of what we think is going to be another impressive and exciting team for 2025. I urge our fans to stay tuned with more news coming very soon.”
