IT WAS resolute defending held the Cherries at bay against ten men Brighton.
Brighton defender Joel Veltman praised his teammates defensive display to hang on to all three points at the Vitality.
Veltman said: “In the last five minutes, they go for a goal with six men in the box and you need to defend properly.”
He added: “To keep us in the game, you need a bit of luck obviously, but we all had that and we got the result.”
With inclement conditions and the rain pouring down around Dean Court, Veltman said: “The wind was harsh but both teams were experiencing it.”
Brighton went down to ten men in the 59th minute after Carlos Baleba was shown a second yellow card.
Cherries pushed on to try and get something out of the game, but it was too little, too late for Andoni Iraola’s side as David Brooks consolation goal wasn’t enough to salvage anything.
On Cherries chances, Veltman said: “When we’re 2-0 Infront and they are at home they will come for you.
“Ten men against eleven, they have the momentum, they have more guys on the pitch so will create more chances.”
Next up for Iraola’s side is a trip to Wolves on Saturday.
