WIMBORNE and Dorchester shared the spoils in the Dorset derby in the Southern League Premier South.

Will Fletcher’s early goal was cancelled out by Wes Fogden on the hour mark, as Wimborne were unable to make the most of a two-man advantage.

Tim Sills made three changes from his lineup that were beaten at Marlow with Charlie Philpott coming in in goal and Lewis Beale and Cam Munn starting.

The hosts opened the scoring after six minutes, as Fletcher powerfully headed home from a perfect Matt Neale corner.

Wimborne had the opportunity to double their lead on 11 minutes, as a driving run from Matty Burrows into the box saw him brought down, the referee pointing to the spot.

Fletcher grabbed the ball but Gerard Benfield guessed the right way and diverted the powerful spot kick behind for a corner.

But the Wimborne back line were resolute and entered the half-time interval with their lead intact.

There was a lightening start to the second period, too, with both sides having four attempts on goal in the first five minutes, but neither could find the back of the net.

On 55 minutes Dorchester were reduced to 10 men as Fletcher raced onto a ball over the top, but he was hauled down by last man Bragg who was shown a straight red card.

But four minutes later Dorchester equalised. A low cross found Fogden and he hit it and Philpott couldn’t hold onto the powerful strike and it went in.

Wimborne made the better of the chances, as Dorchester were reduced to nine with four minutes to play, Spetch receiving his second yellow card.

But Wimborne weren’t able to find a winner and the points were shared.
