BOURNEMOUTH CC sit atop the Dorset Indoor League Division One after making an unbeaten start to the indoor season.

The side have beaten Ferndown B, Bournemouth University and Parley to reach 67 points so far, ahead of the latter side, who are second on 49.

The side’s captain, Ollie Breckon, said it had been a good start for the team.

“Overall, I’m pretty happy with how the side’s playing at the moment,” Breckon said.

“I think we’ve got a good balance between some batters and bowlers in there and it's been good.”

Breckon is one of a trio of bowlers who have taken three wickets so far, along with Ashley Smith and Jake Markham.

On the Bournemouth bowling attack, he said: “There's a few different bowling styles between us, which has been good, being able to chop and change.

“Obviously indoor is very quick game, so being able to go between the different styles of bowling in the players that we've got available has been really helpful.

“[We’ve] got some off spin for the left handers and some sort of medium pace, but everyone's got their different stock deliveries that are working well at the moment, which is good to see.”

With the bat, James Van Gool leads the way for the side without being dismissed, with 119 runs at a strike rate of 228.85.

On Van Gool’s start to the indoor season, Breckon said: “I'm really pleased with the way he's going this year, I think he's getting to grips with the indoor game now.

“He's a very talented player and he showed that outdoors, but it's just tweaking his game for the indoor and obviously the slightly different ball and just knowing that he's got the technique and he's got the fight to get him through and he's doing really well this year.”

Up next, Bournemouth face Poole Town on December 18, before games against Ferndown Wayfarers and Branksome CC next year.

Looking ahead, Breckon said if they can continue as they have started, while remaining tight in the field, the league title is within their grasp.

“I think we can go ahead and win the league this year, which would be great for everyone involved,” he said.

“I think there's a good bit of competition within the league, so actually just knowing what we're good at with James up the top with Ollie [Pugh] and then changing through the bowlers as and when it's appropriate.”
