FERNDOWN’S Corey Coshan became only the second player ever to retain the Dorset Boys’ Championship.

The 17-year-old pipped Canford Magna’s Harry Shaw on countback after both players had finished on 153 in the rain-affected 36-hole stroke play competition.

Shaw had set the pace on the opening day at a drenched Dudsbury with an opening 76, two better than Coshan. The only other player to break 80 was Fern-down’s Harry Mitchell with a 79.

It was decided to postpone the second round until the following day thanks to the kind permission of the club.

And Coshan drew level with Shaw as they chalked up scores of 75 and 77, respectively, and took the title with the best final round.

Mitchell, meanwhile, held on to third place with a 75 to win the inaugural under-16s cup.

Broadstone’s Simon Percey carded a 71 for the best second round, while his club-mate Ryan Warrener won the handicap cup with a net 73 off eight handicap.

Parkstone’s Dan Smith was the only other player to successfully defend his crown in 2006.
